Black Turmeric, a rare turmeric species, is belonging to the Zingiberaceae family. Its botanical name is Cucurma caesia. The perennial herb is native to Asia found in the wild for thousands of years and is revered as an ornamental and medicinal plant. Black Turmeric was once prevalent in the wild, but it is now an endangered species due to unsustainable harvests.  Black Turmeric is known by various regional names, such as Narkachur, Black Zedoary, Siyah Haldi, and Kali Haldi.
